Dougie Belmore, Chief Payments Officer at Pay.UK is the company that was established to connect the UK’s most prominent payment schemes in 2018. In 2018, Bacs was included. Dougie is responsible both for Direct Debit and Bacs Direct Credit, as well as Faster Payments, cheques, and Faster Payments.

Internet Explorer 11 (IE11), is Microsoft’s last remaining IE browser. Microsoft originally planned to retire IE11 by 2025. However, Microsoft announced last year that the date was moved to 2022 – 15 Juni, which is just weeks away.

Operating systems are updated regularly. We’re used to it. Microsoft released Windows 11 to replace IE11, which may cause some confusion. New web browsers seem to appear out of nowhere. Why is this important?

IE11 will cease to be supported on 15 June. Depending on the version of Windows, it might stop working entirely at that time.

This could result in you being unable to access Bacs services. Businesses that access the Payment Services Website using PKI (smartcard solutions) to download reports will need to enable Microsoft’s IE11 compatibility Mode, which is part of the Edge browser.

This compatibility mode has been tested extensively and is the best for PSW users. We used our experiences to create a step by step guide for how to set it up.

You should also consider your operating system. Edge compatibility mode will only work with Windows 10 or 11. Your internal IT support can advise you on this.

As we near Microsoft’s 15-June deadline, you need to ensure that you do the right thing or you risk losing access to Bacs services.

We’ve already written to all our impacted service users, and there is plenty of information on our. Our Bacs service users will be supported by a dedicated IE11 team. They can be reached at 0808 1000 423 between 0800 and 1800 Monday through Friday.
